Words of Grace . . . Giving Thanks
Crosses

Here you will find many "Words of Grace", some familiar, some old, some new. Our family tradition is to offer a special THANKSGIVING PRAYER each year. God's bountiful Blessings enrich our lives beyond measure, and we are to give thanks in all things, praising the Lord. Please consider starting your own family tradition if you do not do so now. My Friends and Family have shared their Thanksgiving Words in the hope that we may inspire you to give a PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING to the Lord.

Make a joyful noise unto the
Lord, all the lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God!
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people,
and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100

Our Father in Heaven,
We give thanks for the pleasure
of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food
prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life, the freedom
to enjoy it all and all other blessings.
As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength to carry on
and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ

The following prayer is one that my oldest child has read for the past
2 years at the beginning of our Thanksgiving meal. I follow this prayer
with my own, giving thanks on a more "personal" level for my own
family's blessings throughout the past year.....This year we are
especially grateful..We have a new addition!
Pam Watt
1999

O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen

Hi, Lady Victoriana!
I don't really have a specific prayer to share with
you but just an idea. Before we say our Thanksgiving grace, we go
around the table and each person has to say something that they are
truly thankful for. It's a good way to turn our thoughts to the Lord,
instead of just the food. I don't know if this helps you or
you can use this but if not, that's fine.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I don't have a favourite grace but I know a lovely song about Thanksgiving
It is written by Don Moen and it is called

Give Thanks

Give Thanks, with a grateful heart
Give Thanks, to the Holy One
Give Thanks, because He's given Jesus Christ His Son
(repeat)
And now let the weak say I am strong,
And now let poor say I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us
And now let the sick say I am healed
Let the blind say I can see
Because of what the Lord has done
We give Thanks

We have a "tradition" where each child takes a turn saying grace.
It is with their own words..and they feel very special to be the one chosen.
In their own words, each child thanks God "for what he or she is thankful for".
The older ones, have course, caught on to the more "traditional prayers" for
grace, but the younger ones include 'most everything they can think of...their
bikes, their cats, their parents, and of course, they remember to add "this food"
etc. as they get older.

Lord!
Along this earthly way
Thou Thy pilgrim greetest;
To Thy thankful child each day
Thou Thy love repeatest;
Thou dost bid me weep no more,
Thou dost teach this song to soar,
Thou dost all the sweetness pour
When my life is sweetest.

Thomas H. Gill

Here is one of my favorites
In His Service,
Mark Hook
1999

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Also, from scripture:

Jude 1:24-25
To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before
His glorious presence without fault and with great joy -
to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forever!
Amen.

The Best Things in Life Are Free
When we count
our many blessings;
It isn't hard to see
that life's most valued
treasures are the
treasures that are free.

For it isn't what
we own or buy
that signifies
our wealth.

It's the special
gifts that have
no price:
our family,
friends and health.
